Help introduce children to praying a litany, which is a liturgical prayer consisting of a series of petitions prayed by a leader alternating with specific responses by congregation or people.

This method of prayer can be appealing to children because of its repetitive nature, which offers comfort while encouraging participation.

This Litany focuses a great deal on the Blessed Virgin Mary, who is a very powerful intercessor for us. The layout of this printable prayer includes a larger font for children, the use of blue text to symbolize Mary as well as to help distinguish the parts spoken by the leader from those of the people. This resource gets learners thinking about mothers. Who says we can't mix religion, grammar, and fun? We think that it is possible to infuse the faith into anything we study and grammar is no different. Use this graphic organizer worksheet to teach about adjectives - words that describe nouns. Using the picture Madonna and Child by Sassoferrato and the common noun mother, children can practice finding words that describe a mother, their own mother, or our Holy Mother.

This style worksheet is always a big hit with our children as they allow for drawing and/or writing of words in the ovals. This worksheet can be used with any age group and is very well suited for use in CCD or ESL classes.

Mother Mary Acrostic Bookmark
Click to learn more and Download

Open in new windowMulti-task with Mother Mary to write poetry and more.

We love to multi-task. Actually, that isn't true, we multi-task out of necessity...lol. When we create resources, we try to utilize multi-subject learning as much as possible to keep our learners enthusiastic and engaged. We have found through our experience, that many times our children will become overwhelmed with a larger quantity of learning tasks which in turn reduces the joy and fun in learning. So we try to be creative not only in our approach to teaching and learning but also in the materials we create around our faith. Today we share our new My Mother Bookmark resource. Look at the learning possibilities in this little resource.

1. This resource displays a beautiful image of our Holy Mother exposing her Immaculate Heart.
2. This piece uses Victorian era graphics with flowers suitable for a Mary Garden (Roses and Sweet Peas).
3. It teaches the Memorare prayer.
4. It provides an opportunity for a child to write an acrostic poem about Mary, mothers, or their own mother. (This also makes a nice Mother's Day gift.)
5. Oh yes, it's also a bookmark. :)

This resource is simple to use - just print, cut apart, fold and glue. There are two per page, and they can easily be laminated to create a nice little keepsake for years to come.

Printable Academic Subject Labels
Click to learn more and Download

Open in new windowHelp children keep track of what's coming up next in their learning day with these cute and very functional subject labels.

Labels are a fun and easy to way to keep things organized and in the case or our Academic subject labels featured on this page, also teach time management skills.

Use these labels to set-up a loose (or tight) learning schedule. Simply print out pages, cut apart subject cards on the lines and order according to the day's tasks. Laminate for more durability and to re-use daily. You can affix to poster board, bulletin board or simply use low-tack painter's tape on a wall and grid out the day for each child. As children gain more organizational experience, have them order their day according to their preferences.

The picture above shows a sample schedule for one day on our homeschool bulletin board. It is a very simple set-up and only takes a few minutes to complete.

After laminating the pieces I used an over sized hole punch and simply hung the labels on push-pins.

When subjects are completed, our kiddo simply turns them over as a sign of accomplishment.

It is amazing how much more gets accomplished when children feel a bit more control over their learning. It doesn't need to be perfect, just fun!

Open in new windowAn alternative to bulletin board use

As alternative option to using a bulletin board, a fun option is to use the wall. The last pciture at left is how we previously used the labels last last year on the wall with blue low-tack painter's tape and blue mac-tack. It is super-simple and leaves no markings on the wall either. Kids have fun helping to move around the pieces and help make their learning schedule too.

Our subject label set includes these study areas: math, spelling, reading, phonics, literature, vocabulary, art, music, history, geography, mapping, religion, Bible, home skills, virtue study, P.E., writing, science, nature study, English, French, Latin, foreign language, computer.

Climb a Ladder to Heaven Project
Click to learn more and Download

Open in new windowLet's Climb Closer to Heaven!

A family project to help children develop consideration and obedience through daily chores with positive attitudes.

Let's face it, nobody likes doing daily chores. St. Therese of Lisieux taught us that through the practice of doing small things for others out of charity, we show love to them and to God. Having children complete school lessons
diligently, with a good attitude or in a timely manner can sometimes be a challenge and a chore in itself. Combine that with the daily tasks, chores, activities that need to be done, and the daily to-do list can be fairly long.

As homeschoolers, we face the special challenge of living in our homes 24/7. Living in our home means more messes, cleaning, and tasks. Add having a large family or children with special needs or running your own business to that, and many homeschooling families can feel overwhelmed. This can easily lead us to burn out. However, through God's grace and the Holy Sacraments, we can use our daily tasks to draw closer to God.

In this fun project children will have an assigned character, and will move them up and down the ladder corresponding to their positive or negative behavior.

There are three steps in completing this project. They are: preparing the materials, practicing good behavior and moving the corresponding pieces accordingly up and down the ladder in the desired timeframe.

Full instructions are included in the 39 page download as well as the character pieces, ladder, and over 25 unique chore card sheets. Once the cards are created, they can easily be stored in an index card holder, recipe card holder or on rings. (Storage ideas are also mentioned in the project directions.)

Plan and Plant a Garden Project
Click to learn more and Download

Open in new windowWhether you are interested in planting a Mary Garden, veggie garden, flower garden or even water garden this project can help you plan and plant your garden.

This is a family project to help children learn about responsibility and patience through planning, planting, and monitoring a garden.

Among one of the most rewarding tasks is planting a garden. Whether it is a veggie garden, flower garden, water garden, or rock garden, planting seeds and seeing them through to fruition is a wondrous thing. This is a great way to teach about responsibility and patience.

Using the learning and activity sheets in this packet you can help your learner choose, plan, plant, and chart the progress of a garden of their choice. Use any basic gardening book from your shelf or local library to complete the activities. We have also included some great kid friendly internet resource links on our website to help you bring this project to life. You will find them on the same page that you downloaded this project.

Project Overview Steps

Step 1: Print out the Plan and Plant a Garden resource packet below to begin your unit project.

Our Plan and Plant a Garden 29 page resource packet is designed to be printed out and then bound on the left with a three-hole duo-tang, binder, comb spine, or hand sewn. Instructions are included in the resource. Some pages are templates and can be printed as many times as needed while others are activity specific sheets. Almost all of our pages are in color. If ink is an issue, you can print out our resources in grey scale.

Open in new windowStep 2: Begin going through the resource packet systematically with your children. Resource focus areas include:
Learn about plants and their needs. Review the needs of plants using the included sheets. Visit any of the gardening sites listed on our site to help children learn about these details.

Learn about the Steps to Good Gardening. Using the online resource links or resources of your own, fill out the steps to good gardening practices on the sheet provided. Hints are also given on the page itself.

Learn about different types of gardens. There are many distinct types of gardens - even one dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Use these sheets to help you learn about some unique types of gardens that people can grow. Whether you live in the city with only sidewalk, out in the country with acres to roam, or just have a small backyard in a neighborhood, there is always a garden waiting to be planted.

Open in new windowStep 3: Select the type of garden you would like to plant and plan a garden to suit your needs. Resource focus areas include:
Decide - What Kind of Garden Shall I Grow? After you investigate the different types of gardens available, use the graphic organizer to help your child determine the best kind of garden to plant in your particular home or designated area.

Decide - What Are You Going to Plant in Your Garden? Use this page to help children decide what kinds of plants they would like to plant. Do this page before you do the plant detective worksheets or in conjunction with their completion. The purpose of this page is to provide a record of what is desired in their garden with their own art work to illustrate their wishes. If you have a child who does NOT like art, pictures could be printed off the internet or cut out from old garden magazines and pasted on instead.

Be a Plant Fact Detective. Print out one sheet for each plant that will be placed in your garden or for any plant that your child may be interested in learning about. Information can be gathered using the back of garden seed packets, info sheets available from most all garden centres, books from the library or from the internet.

Draw a Map of Your Garden. This page will help your child map out their growing space. There is also the opportunity for children to create a map key and practice directional activities. Perhaps you may want to help your child develop the map based on a particular time of the day as an alternative activity.

Open in new windowStep 4: Prepare your growing area and plant your garden.
Learn about Good Gardening Tools. How many gardening tools do you recognize from these pages? With just some quick searches online or a visit to your local hardware or garden supply centre you can find out what each tool is used for.
Create plant labels for your garden. Using our templates create and stake garden labels in your planting area. This activity gives budding artists another opportunity to draw about the beauty of nature. Refer to the links below to help find pictures of your selected plant(s). The pre-printed selections are the plants in our own family garden here in BC, Canada.

Open in new windowStep 5: Track the progress of your garden. Resource focus areas include:

Track the Growth of Your Garden. This is a wonderful way to have children practice patience and also measuring with a ruler at the same time. As a side note, this can be an opportunity for young mathematicians to practice graphing in another activity, if you so choose, by using just some simple graphing paper and different colored pencils.

Note - How Big Did it Grow? Track the progress of a favorite plant with art. You could also print this page out to do multiple plants if your child has more than one "favorite" plant that they want to track. Have a really young learner? This is a way that Pre/K+ can choose and track the progress of only one plant using their drawing skills.

Make Memories using the Photo Keepsake Pages. Don't forget to take lots of pictures with your little gardeners in their element. Great to show proof of learning for SLPs (student learning plans) and show friends and family too!!

My Geography Adventure to Germany Project
Click to learn more and Download

Learn about the culture and country of Germany through this creative research project almost guaranteed to bring a smile to your learners face.

Suitable for Gr. 4 and higher, this project combines using multiple sources for research with narration, art, and creativity as learners pretend to travel to Germany to visit a cousin.

My Geography Adventure to Germany Project is a fun way to learn as well as present information about Germany and its people. Each project challenges learners to answer fifteen What I Want to Know' questions covering such topics as geographical information, culture, educational system, current political leadership, economy, currency, transportation, holidays, religion, family customs, everyday living, and more. Learners provide a written narration or account of the information in their project notebook.

The really creative fun is in the illustrations. Each project has graphics to represent your learner (either boy or girl) as well as a graphic to represent the main project character. Our principal character in this project is an eleven year-old boy named Jonas. Learners use the included graphics to represent themselves as well as the main character in their adventures in Germany. Narrations could easily be done with the one to one rule - one question answered on one page using at least one graphic character to illustrate or add interest to the content. Other graphics, photos, brochures, clippings, etc. could also add additional interest.

You are encouraged to use any number of resources you may have at home, to help learners complete the project. These could be books, videos, magazines, etc. The internet is a very handy resource as well. Be careful to monitor websites for content changes, which may have occurred after publication of this project.

Step 1: Print out the My Geography Adventure to Germany.PDF file.

File will include instruction sheet and project sheets.

Step 2: Prepare the project notebook.

Read through the instruction sheet and prepare your project notebook. You may print out the pages and glue into a marble notebook or other notebook, or print and glue onto half of a file folder to be bound on the left-hand side with brags when completed. Simply cut on the blue lines to make this project suitable for notebook use. You could also just print it out and use as is. My Geography Adventure to Japan Project
Click to learn more and Download

Open in new windowLearn about the culture and country of Japan through this creative research project almost guaranteed to bring a smile to your learners face.

Suitable for Gr. 4 and higher, this project combines using multiple sources for research with narration, art, and creativity as learners pretend to travel to Japan to visit a cousin.

My Geography Adventure to Japan Project is a fun way to learn as well as present information about Japan and its people. Each project challenges learners to answer fifteen 'What I Want to Know' questions covering such topics as geographical information, culture, educational system, current political leadership, economy, currency, transportation, holidays, religion, family customs, everyday living, and more. Learners provide a written narration or account of the information in their project notebook.

Open in new windowThe really creative fun is in the illustrations. This project has graphics to represent your learner (either boy or girl) as well as a graphic to represent the main project character. Our principal character in this project is a nine-year-old girl named Mizuki. Learners use the included graphics to represent themselves as well as the main character in their adventures in Japan. Narrations could easily be done with the one to one rule - one question answered on one page using at least one graphic character to illustrate or add interest to the content. Other graphics, photos, brochures, clippings, etc. could also add additional interest.

Open in new windowYou are encouraged to use any number of resources you may have at home, to help learners complete the project. These could be books, videos, magazines, etc. The internet is a very handy resource as well. Be careful to monitor websites for content changes, which may have occurred after publication of this project.

Step 1: Print out the My Geography Adventure to Japan.PDF file.

The file includes an instruction sheet and project sheets.

Step 2: Prepare the project notebook.

Read through the instruction sheet and prepare your project notebook. You may print out the following pages and glue into a marble notebook or other notebook, or print and glue onto half of a file folder to be bound on the left-hand side with brags when completed. Simply cut on the blue lines to make this project suitable for notebook use. You could also just print it out and use as is. These were designed for smaller notebook use, and may not be centered for single sheet use. Feel free to trim and alter to fit your needs.

Step 3: Go over the project and its goals with your learner.

A picture is provided for children to color and the text changes on each page. Finished work can be displayed showing the entire year on a bulletin board, wall or 3-ring binder.
